History

It was established in 1920. As the result of reorganisation of the University in 1924 into a pedagogical institute, activity of the Faculty was suspended and resumed later in 1994 as the Faculty of Economics and Management. An independent Faculty of Economics was organised in 1999.
Today the Faculty is directed by Professor N. V. Apatova.

General Information

The Faculty has six Departments: the Department of Economic Theory, the Department of Economic Cybernetics, the Department of International Economics, the Department of Finances and Credit, and the Department of Accounting and Audit.
There are seven Doctors and 33 Candidates of Sciences at the Faculty. Some of them are top managers of banks and large industrial enterprises, experts and consultants of local government authorities.
The number of full-time and correspondence students totals to approximately 1,500 persons. Furthermore, some 120 persons graduate from the Faculty with their second higher education in economics every year.
The Faculty provides education in two specialities: Economic Cybernetics and Finances.
Graduates with the speciality 'Finances' work as economists at enterprises, companies, banks and other organisations.
Graduates with the speciality 'Economic Cybernetics' acquire skills in three areas: economics, computer technology and applied mathematics. They can work as economists, programmers or system analysts. A new specialisation in environmental economic modelling has been recently introduced.
The Faculty's curricula include the following: general theoretical and mathematical disciplines, courses on finances and commerce, banking, stock exchange, and securities market. Major attention is paid to theoretical and practical issues related to modem information technology.
Successful graduates have an opportunity to improve their skills through postgraduate programs. There are 23 postgraduate students at the Faculty at present.
Students of this Faculty have an opportunity to study in Europe in the framework of cooperation between Tavricheskiy University and the Universities of Nice and Perpignan (France) and Genoa University (Italy). 17 students received their First Degree Diplomas of Higher Education in France and nine of them continue their studies abroad through the Tempus-TACIS Project on the Environmental Economics of the Southern Ukraine.

Areas of Research

Mechanisms of and information support for the integration of the Crimean economy in the global economy in the context of economic transformations in Ukraine; financial analysis; institutional development; investment projects and insurance risks assessment; regional integration cooperation; simulation techniques in economics. The substance of the above research is related to the needs of economic development in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and is focused on practical achievements. Research products of the Faculty are widely applied by the Accounting Chamber, the Ministries of Economy and Finance, the Tourism Committee, the Crimean Employment Centre, etc. The faculty members conduct seminars and roundtable meetings in ministries, agencies, banks, insurance and audit companies.

Academic and Educational Relations

are maintained with Genoa University (Italy), Nice and Perpignan Universities (France), Warsaw Higher Socioeconomic School (Poland), Minnesota University (the United States: the USAID-funded Project for Support of Management-Business-Education Development in Ukraine).
