Sociolinguistic variability in language and speech; social stratification of modern German language in Germany at the phonetic and phonological level.

Academic and Educational Relations

are maintained with the North Rhine- Westphalia Federal Land Institute of Foreign Languages, the German National Cultural Centre of Goethe Institute; faculty members of the Department are involved in international Tempus-TACIS and Intas projects and prepare foreign language textbooks for the Ukrainian and Russian students together with scholars from Universities of Kiev, Moscow, Ekaterinburg and Hagen (Germany).
