It exists from 1955, when the Department of Ukrainian Language and
Literature was opened, and is now directed by Assistant Professor M. Ya. Vishniak. Professors: P. M. Kirichek (theory
of literature, history of Ukrainian literature) and A. I. Gubar (introduction
to literature studies, history of Ukrainian literature); Assistant Professors:
V. I. Gumeniuk (history of Ukrainian literature), J. P. Buketova
(history of Ukrainian literature, fundamental rhetoric); E. S. Pokotylo
(history of Ukrainian literature) and M. Ya. Vyshniak (history of Ukrainian
literature, Ukrainian literary criticism); Assistants: V. T. Gasanova
(Ukrainian literature teaching methods, oral folk art.) and G. M. Myk-hailichenko
(literature studies), etc.
| History of Ukrainian dramaturgy.
The Department holds annual conferences dedicated to the legacy of Lesia Ukrainka
and other writers. Professor A. I. Gubar and Assistant Professor V. I. Gumeniuk
are members of the Ukrainian Union of Writers. Assistant Professor Gumeniuk's
book of original poetry was distinguished by the V. Symonenko Prize and his Ukrainian
translations of A.Mizkevich and W. Shakespeare were published in academic publications.
Professor A. I. Gubar facilitated publication, in 1999, of the first separate
edition of the CrimeanTatar translations of Taras Shevchenko's works titled The
Distant and Close Shevchenko. |
