It was established in 1975 and is now directed by Professor S. V.
Konoshenko, Doctor of Biology Molecular - cellular mechanisms
of adaptation in various conditions of the human or animal organism.
The Department
offers postgraduate and doctoral programs. are maintained
with Shevchenko Kiev National University, Lvov and Kharkov National Universities,
the NASU Institute of Biochemistry, the Institute of Southern Seas Biology, the
NASU State Oceanarium, and Caroline Institute (Sweden). Students graduate as biologists specialising in biochemistry. Professors: S.V.Konoshenko (biochemistry,
blood biochemistry, fundamentals of enzymology, biochemistry of carbohydrates
and lipids) and 0. G.Kosik (biochemistry, molecular immunology); Assistant
Professors: I.N.Zaievskaya (molecular biology, immunology, molecular
foundations of heredity, structural and functional characteristics of proteins),
V.S.Martyniuk (physical and chemical methods in biochemistry, structure
and functions of biomembranes, molecular foundations of adaptation processes)
and V.V.Kazakova (biochemistry of vitamins, biochemistry of hormones);
Senior Lecturer G.V.Pekhimenko (biochemistry); Assistant V.A.Zhurba
(laboratory training for the general course in biochemistry and individual specialisation
disciplines).
