General Information

It was established in 1973 and is now directed by Assistant Professor Yuri F. Bezrukov. Five core courses are lectured here: physical geography of continents and oceans; topography with fundamentals of geodesy; meteorology and climatology; cartography and map drawing; and aerospace research techniques. Students specialize in ocean geography, marine economy and maritime law. They take the following special courses: general and regional oceanology, marine geology, seashores and seashore processes, oceanographic research techniques, biology of the ocean, GIS and technology in oceanology, economy of the port industry, sea transport economy, maritime law, etc.

Areas of Research

Natural processes in the ocean; formation of water masses and their impact on the structure ofhydrophysical fields; analysis of specific characteristics of seabed relief and seashore dynamics. Faculty members and students participate in expeditionary research (until recent, these expeditions covered the water areas of Atlantic and Indian Oceans).
