History

History of this Faculty dates back to the creation of Taurida University. A. N. Derevitskiy, a renown expert in world culture, was the first Dean of the former Faculty of History and Linguistics. World known scholars lectured at this Faculty, including Professor G. V. Vemadskiy (son of V. I. Vemadskiy), Professors B. D. Grekov and N. L. Ernst, Privat Assistant Professor A. I. Markevich (later a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences), and others. L. A. Pashkovskiy is now the Faculty Dean.

General Information

The Faculty trains specialists in world and Ukrainian history. It has four Departments: history of Ukraine and special historical disciplines; modern and contemporary history; Russian history; ancient and medieval history.
Faculty graduates work in various fields to meet the national needs and regional interests of the Crimea, the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions. They work in institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, universities, colleges and secondary schools, other academic, educational and cultural institutions. Talented students have opportunities to continue postgraduate and doctoral studies in Ukraine and the leading universities of foreign countries.

Specialization

The Faculty offers the following specialisations:
History: history of Ukraine; history of Russia; history of international relations; ancient history; medieval history; archaeology.

Areas of Research

History of Ukraine and the Crimea; history of foreign countries; history of international relations; history of Russia; archaeology; ancient history; medieval history.

Academic and Educational Relations

Are maintained with a number of the NASU institutes, Kiev, Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk National Universities, Zaporozhia University and other universities in Ukraine as well as Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, institutes, universities and academies of Russia, Poland and France. Good ties have been established with the Education Directorate of the Council of Europe and the Peace Institute (the United States).
